Martha White Diary, 1905-1908

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 13
Identifier: 13

Scope and Contents

The first entry in the diary of Martha White is December 30, 1905 when she left Richmond, Kentucky to become a trained nurse in Dr. Price's Hospital in Philadelphia. For the next three years subsequent entries describe her fellow nurses, the patients, their ailments, her activities during her free time, the names of churches she attended, clothing she purchased, and trips she enjoyed on her holidays. The diary is in remarkably good condition although the paper is yellowing and becoming brittle. The diary is a careful chronicle of Miss White's life during her first three years in Philadelphia.
