Subject - Officials Correspondence, 1938-1962
Scope and Contents
The Board of Control Series consists of correspondence, meeting minutes, and subject files. The Board of Control, which is the governing body of the KHSAA, as well as the KHSAA President (replaced in 1947 by the Commissioner) deal with a variety of administrative matters. Correspondence covers such topics as applications for membership, by-laws, the eligibility of players, questions of illegal use of athletes, and general office and financial matters. Kentucky politics is also discussed, especially when KHSAA President W.F. O'Donnell campaigned for Governor Keen Johnson in 1939 . Meeting minutes of the Board of Control document official actions taken by the board, and since the fall of 1957, all board minutes have been published in The Athlete. The subject files cover various topics, such as black athletics in Kentucky under the Bluegrass High School Athletic Association, redistricting for boys basketball, the National Federation of High School Athletics Association, and trophies.
