Magic Lantern Slide Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection was purchased for classroom use by Eastern Kentucky State Normal School. The bulk of the collection is from the Keystone View Company and appears to be the "600 set." This set was selected by educators as the most valuable to use in the classroom. The images were selected specifically for the curriculum of the time period. Keystone even produced a guide to the 600 set to make it easy for teachers to use the slides which depict culture, industry, agriculture, transportation, geography, and more from around the world. Most of these images are not dated, but are likely from circa 1900 to circa 1925. There are also some slides from other smaller companies and an early Eastern faculty member, George D. Smith, created his own slides which can be viewed here.
