Mason Family Papers
Scope and Contents
Family papers of the Mason Family. This collection includes correspondence to Francis Mason regarding her progress in her positions at EKU and CECOS (Civil Engineer Corps Officers School). It also includes newspaper clippings documenting Francis’ work during her time in Japan. This collection also includes records of the Mason Triplets. These include family photos of multiple generations of the Mason family, newspaper ads and articles about the triplets, and family records.

Biographical / Historical
E. Francis Mason was born February 13, 1909, to William Hugh Mason and Margaret Wilmore Rice. Francis Mason graduated from EKU in 1930 with a BA. She went on to Emory University graduating with a BA in Library Science. After attending Emory, she began working at EKU as a librarian. She then worked for the Army as a librarian from 1944-1954 spending time working abroad in Japan from 1948-1954. After her time in Japan, Mason began working for CECOS in their library. She would later return to EKU in 1974 working until 1978. The Mason Triplets (Robert, Rankin, and Alexander Mason) were born November 6, 1890, to John Calvin Mason and Sarah Cornelison Mason. They were identical triplets and because of this had many articles written about them and were featured in Mellin’s Food ads. They were the uncles of Francis Mason.
