Scope and Contents Leslie Anderson kept many documents relating to his time as a student at Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and his early teaching career. He has photographs from these times that cannot be found anywhere else. These, along with his compositions and the scrapbooks he compiled, paint a vivid picture of what it was like to be a student at Eastern and a teacher in Kentucky in the early part of the 20th century. This collection contains materials related to teacher education and public K-12 education, in particular rural education, in the state of Kentucky.

Abstract

This collection contains the personal and professional papers belonging to Robert R. Martin. Martin is popularly known as former President of Eastern Kentucky University, but also served as an educator, Superintendent of Education, and a Senator. This collection contains correspondence, legislative papers, photographs, scrapbooks, campaign materials, publications, and materials documenting his success throughout his career.

Scope and Contents

This small collection consists of a single issue of Mountain Life & Work and several photographs of schools in the Appalachian Region taken in the 1950s. These photographs are mostly of one-room schools and were taken in Jackson County, KY, Greene and Hancock Counties, Tennessee and Russell County, Virginia, Several photos were deliberately unidentified including one photograph with an integrated class. Several photos also show parents building playgrounds and painting the school.
