Scope and Contents Dr. Thomas H. Appleton, Jr. started regularly collecting historical Kentucky materials after he started working at the Kentucky Historical Society in the 1980s. This collection consists of photocopies of minute books from the Silver Creek Presbyterian Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, KY and the Kirksville Presbyterian Church. Also included are church histories, newsletters, publications and bulletins from the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond. Most of these materials were collected from various sources over a long period of years and are not complete records of any of these churches.

This collection records the business of the African American Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Kirksville and documents the church services, membership and leadership. The records include a copy of the first minute book; however, the church retained ownership of that volume at the time of the donation.

Scope and Contents Old Cane Spring Baptist Church Records include four volumes of church records covering the years 1803 to 1992. The volume covering the years 1873 - 1896 is missing. The records include membership lists, monthly minutes and news clippings. The membership lists indicate that a member was deceased, dismissed or excluded and when and how they were accepted into the church.
