Martin Baker Text, 1820-1835
Scope and Contents
This is a two part text that begins with geometry, logarithms, plane trigonometry, and then applies those techniques to land surveying with large sections on acreage calculation and equal division of land. The second section deals with the measurement of timber and other construction measures. This text is based on Hawney's Complete Measurer: Or, The Whole Art of Measuring. There are occasional personal notes in the text, such as the date his mother died and his grandmother's name. Martin Baker is from Cumberland County, Kentucky.
